What We Do

The following efforts are included in PCALC’s ongoing work in the community:

• Giving Shaken Infant Syndrome Prevention Presentations to school classes and parent groups
• Sponsoring four billboards each month to share prevention messages throughout the region
• Presenting educational materials at community gatherings; assembling and distributing educational packets in English and Spanish to one local hospital and providing packets to at-risk parents in another area hospital
• Co-sponsoring an April Child Abuse Prevention Forum hosted at Indiana University Northwest, which provides an opportunity for individual education through a variety of speakers and topic breakout sessions
• Inviting area churches through e-mail and phone calls to join the April Faith Initiative for preventing child abuse
• Sponsoring a “CHAIRish the Children” chair decorating contest for Lake County middle and high schools during April
• Launching a professional media campaign designed to target parents and children with prevention messages and local resources for additional information and help
